1944: Chris Wood (flautist/saxophonist/keyboardist for Traffic) is born in Quinton, Birmingham, πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§. He's best known as a founding member of the British rock band Traffic, along with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Dave Mason. Wood died of pneumonia on 12th July 1983 - https://youtu.be/dRH0CGVK7ic .
1944: Rock guitarist Jeff Beck (Geoffrey Arnold Beck) is born in Wallington, England. He was ranked fifth in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and the magazine, upon whose cover Beck has appeared three times, has described him as "one of the most influential lead guitarists in rock". 1945: Colin Blunstone (lead singer of The Zombies) is born in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England. 1947: Mick Fleetwood (Michael John Kells Fleetwood) was born in Redruth, Cornwall. The initial incarnation of Fleetwood Mac performed its first gig in August 1967 at the seventh annual Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival, playing a Chicago-style blues. John McVie, initially hesitant to commit, was later prompted to leave the Bluesbreakers and join Fleetwood Mac full-time when the former adopted a horns section with which he disagreed. 1948: Patrick Moraz (Patrick Philippe Moraz) keyboardist for Yes, The Moody Blues is born on an aeroplane, though Morges, Switzerland has been cited as his hometown. In May 1978, Moraz visited a convention held by the Audio Engineering Society in Los Angeles, where "Herbie Hancock taught me how to use the vocoder" and he agreed to represent Aphex Systems in Brazil. On his way back to Brazil, Moraz stopped in Miami where, at his hotel, he received a call asking him to join the Moody Blues after Mike Pinder left the band. Moraz proceeded to sing "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon" on the phone, and accepted an audition in London in July 1978. 1949: John Illsley (bass guitarist for Dire Straits) is born in Leicester, England. Illsley is best known as bass guitarist of the rock band Dire Straits who had the 1985 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ No.1 single 'Money For Nothing' the 1986 πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ No.2 single 'Walk Of Life' and the 1985 world wide No.1 album Brothers In Arms. 2013: Former Devo drummer Alan Myers died aged 58 in Los Angeles, California, following a long bout with cancer. Myers drummed for Devo between 1976 and 1986.
