1944: Ray Davies (rhythm guitarist, vocalist for The Kinks) is born in Fortis Green, London, England. Sir Raymond Douglas Davies, CBE was the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter for the Kinks, which he led with his younger brother, Dave. After the Kinks obtained a recording contract in early 1964, Davies emerged as the chief songwriter and de facto leader of the band, especially after the band's breakthrough success with his early composition "You Really Got Me", which was released as the band's third single in August of that year - https://youtu.be/fTTsY-oz6Go .

1948: The Columbia label announces its new technological breakthrough, a "long-playing" vinyl phonograph record that can hold up to 23 minutes of music on a side.
1948: Lionel Rose was born in Jacksons Track, VIC. Born Lionel Edmund Rose, he was an Australian bantamweight boxer, the first Indigenous Australian to win a world title. He later became the first Indigenous Australian to be named Australian of the Year. During his time off from boxing in the 1970s, Rose embarked on a modest singing career in Australia having hits with "I Thank You" and "Please Remember Me" in 1970. 1950: Joey Kramer (drummer for Aerosmith) is born in The Bronx, New York City.
1950: John Paul Young was born John Inglis Young in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland. In February 1975, Young released "Yesterday's Hero", a song about the fleeting nature of pop stardom which drew on Vanda & Young's own experiences as former teen idols. The single shot into the national charts in April and gave Young his first top ten hit, reaching No. 8 on the πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί singles chart. 1953: Rock multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren (of Grin, E Street Band, All Starr Band) is born in Chicago, Illinois. He joined Neil Young's band aged 17, playing piano on the album After the Gold Rush. From 1971 to 1974 he recorded four albums with his own band, Grin. He had the 1976 solo album, 'Cry Tough'. Joined Bruce Springsteen E Street Band in 1984.
1955: Kevin Stanton of Mi-Sex was born in New Zealand. By August 1978, Mi-Sex had moved to Sydney where they plugged into the time with futuristic-sounding hits (co-written by Stanton) like Computer Games, People and Space Race, and high-charting albums as Graffiti Games and Space Race. Computer Games, which was #1 in Australia, also opened the international market for them after it went Top 10 in Austria, Canada, France, Italy, South Africa and West Germany.
