1944 - Rick Davies born in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. Vocalist and keyboardist with Supertramp, who had the 1979 UK No.7, US No.6 & π¦πΊ No.19 single with 'The Logical Song' and the 1979 π¦πΊ & US No.1 and UK No.3 album Breakfast In America. 1953 - English rock singer Brian Howe born. Best known for replacing Paul Rodgers as the lead vocalist of Bad Company. Howe's career was jump-started in 1983 when Ted Nugent recruited him to handle lead vocals for his Penetrator album and front its subsequent world tour. He died on 6 May 2020 of cardiac arrest age 66.
1957 - π¦πΊ - Greg Morris was born on the 22nd of July 1957 in Kogarah, New South Wales, Australia. A drummer for several bands, Greg has said that his key influence was the first concert he ever attended, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. In his own words, βThe most important concert was the very first one I ever went to which was Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs at The Capitol Theatre - Haymarket, what a sensational night. That first concert blew me away and that was the night I knew I was going to be a drummer in a band, thanks Billy, R.I.P.β.
1960 - π¦πΊ - John Prior of Matt Finish was born in Sydney, Australia. During his teens, he performed in the bands Mandrake, then Legend with brother Rob Prior (guitar/vocals) and neighbour Paul Williams (bass guitar). With the addition of keyboards player Chris Short and the name change to Conic Section, they composed original jazz-rock fusion, performed at the Limerick Castle Hotel, and won the Festival Of Pop band competition at Flemington Sydney in 1974 and a 2SM song competition in 1975. In 1979, Prior formed Matt Finish with singer/guitarist Matt Moffitt and through to the end of the seventies, they played regular residencies in clubs and pubs around Sydney every night of the week, often double gigging on weekends. 1963 - The Beatles first US album, Introducing The Beatles was pressed by Vee-Jay Records, who thought they had obtained the legal rights from EMI affiliate, Trans-Global Records. When it was finally released in January 1964, Capitol Records would hit Vee Jay with an injunction against manufacturing, distributing, advertising, or otherwise disposing of records by the Beatles. After a trial, Vee-Jay was allowed to release any Beatles records that they had masters of in any form until October 15th, 1964. After that time, they no longer had the right to issue any Beatles product.

1973 - David Bowie released the single 'Life On Mars', which peaked at No.3 on the UK chart. 1977 - Stiff Records released 'My Aim Is True' the debut album from Elvis Costello in the UK. 1979 - Little Richard, who has been preaching of his salvation throughout the United States, makes his famous statement, "If God can save an old homosexual like me, he can save anybody". The flamboyant singer, who was thrown out of his home as a teenager when his sexual orientation clashed with his family's Pentecostal faith, first renounced the "Devil's music" in 1957 while touring in Sydney, π¦πΊ. A blazing fireball in the sky - which turned out to be the launching of the Sputnik 1 satellite - warned of his eternal damnation and he boogied his way to Alabama to save his soul (and study theology). Hits like "Tutti Frutti," "Long Tall Sally" and "Good Golly Miss Molly" were relics of a sinful past for the newly ordained singer, who switched to gospel music and founded the Little Richard Evangelistic Team. 2019 - American singer, songwriter and keyboardist Art Neville died aged 81. Art shot to fame as part of the Neville Brothers when they started singing as children but went their separate ways in the 1950s and 1960s. It was not until 1977 that the brothers finally got together again and in 1978, they recorded their first Neville Brothers album. Art was a founding member of The Meters, whose musical style represents New Orleans funk.
