1949 - Michael Shrieve born in San Francisco, California. American drummer and percussionist Michael Shrieve is best known as the drummer of Santana. He played on all albums from 1969 to 1974. - Phil Emmanuel was born in Dorrigo, New South Wales, Australia. An Australian guitar player who found fame with The Trailblazers and as the older brother of musician Tommy Emmanuel. He played with many other
artists including INXS, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, Ian Moss and Slim Dusty, as well as playing with many international artists such as British guitarist Hank B. Marvin and American performers Chet Atkins, Willie Nelson, Duane Eddy and Dolly Parton. His debut album, Kakadu Sunrise, reached No. 33 on the New Zealand album charts. In 1994 Phil and Tommy Emmanuel released the album Terra Firma and it was nominated for the 1995 ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album. 1957 - John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time at The Woolton Church Parish Fete where The Quarry Men were appearing. As The Quarry Men were setting up for their evening performance, McCartney eager to impress Lennon picked up a guitar and played 'Twenty Flight Rock' (Eddie Cochran) and 'Be-Bop-A-Lula' (Gene Vincent). Lennon was impressed, and even more so when McCartney showed Lennon and Eric Griffiths how to tune their guitars, something they'd been paying someone else to do for them. When they meet again, Lennon asks McCartney to join his band.

1972 - David Bowie performs "Starman" on Top Of The Pops, causing an uproar among the conservative British audience by singing with his arm coquettishly draped around the shoulder of guitarist Mick Ronson - a move that makes him as a household name overnight. Bowie had appeared on the popular music show before, doing "Space Oddity" in 1969 and playing piano on Peter Noone's performance of a song Bowie wrote, "Oh! You Pretty Things," in 1971. But this time is different. Bowie had spent lots of time curating his Ziggy Stardust character, who makes quite a fashion statement with an array of colourful patterns set against Bowie's pale complexion. In June, Ziggy is ready to go and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars is released. His TOTP Starman performance is for most the first look at the character, and it leaves an impression.
