1938 - American bassist Al Rex, (Albert Floyd Piccirilli) born. He started playing for Bill Haley & His Comets and its predecessor Bill Haley and the Saddlemen in 1949 and became noted for 'wild antics' on stage. He died on 24 May 2020 age 91 - https://youtu.be/1Hb66FH9AzI .

1941 - English singer-songwriter, Steve Gibbons born. He was a member of The Ugly's until in 1969, Gibbons teamed up with guitarist Trevor Burton from The Move and formed a new group called Balls, he then joined The Idle Race for three months in 1971 and this band evolved into the Steve Gibbons Band who scored the hit 'Tulane' - https://youtu.be/aFkfa6ayN1Y .
1942 - Doo wop singer Jay Uzzell (born Jay Dee Uzzell of The Corsairs) is born in La Grange, North Carolina. The Corsairs were an American doo wop ensemble from La Grange, North Carolina. 1942 - Roger McGuinn born in Chicago, Illinois. Guitarist and vocals with The Byrds, (1965 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ & πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ No.1and an πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί #4 single 'Mr Tambourine Man'). He was the only member of The Byrds to play on the hit, the others being session players. 1985 - At 12.01 Status Quo started the Live Aid extravaganza, held between Wembley Stadium, London and The JFK Stadium, Philadelphia. The cream of the world's biggest rock stars took part in the worldwide event, raising over Β£40million. TV pictures beamed to over 1.5bn people in 160 countries made it the biggest live broadcast ever known. Artists who appeared included Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, The Who, U2, David Bowie and Mick Jagger, Queen, Tina Turner, The Cars, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bryan Adams, Hall and Oates, Lionel Richie and Led Zeppelin.
1985 - The Live Aid concerts take place to raise money for the hungry in Africa. The Beach Boys, The Four Tops, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Elton John, David Bowie, The Who, Queen, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan all take part. Live Aid is the brainchild of The Boomtown Rats singer Bob Geldof and Midge Ure of Ultravox. Billed as "The Global Jukebox," the all-day charity concert is held to raise money for relief efforts after a devastating famine in Ethiopia. George Michael sang lead vocals to Elton John's performance of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" with Andrew Ridgeley performing background vocals. 1985 - Tears for Fears bow out of performing at Live Aid, Bob Geldof's star-studded charity concert for famine relief in Africa, after two members of their band quit. All those millions of people dying, it was all our fault. I felt terrible.”

2002 - Fatboy Slim brought the Brighton area to a standstill when he threw a free beach party. Organisers had expected 60,000 fans to attend but over 250,000 turned up causing chaos on the roads with traffic jams over ten miles long. 2004 - Arthur 'Killer' Kane, bass player with The New York Dolls, died aged 55 after checking himself in to a Los Angeles emergency room, complaining of fatigue. He was quickly diagnosed with leukaemia and died within two hours. The influential πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ band formed in 1972 and made just two albums, the 1973 'New York Dolls' and 1974 'Too Much Too Soon'.

2012 - Roger Waters' tour The Wall Live, topped worldwide concert ticket sales for the first half of 2012. The show based Pink Floyd's hit 1970s album, took $158.1m (Β£102.3m) beating Bruce Springsteen and Madonna. Waters sold 1.4 million tickets according to Pollstar magazine, which tracks the live concert business.

2017 - πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί - Simon Holmes of the Sydney band The Hummingbirds died on the 13th of July 2017. Born on 28 March 1963 Mordialloc, Victoria, he was an Australian musician who served as the singer and lead guitarist for the indie rock bands The Hummingbirds (1986-93) and Her Name in Lights (2003-05). The group's debut album, loveBUZZ (October 1989) via rooArt, peaked at No. 31 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Holmes died in Sydney at the age of 54.
