TBA - ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ - Jason McDonald of Sydney based rock band Strange Karma born. Australian rockers Strange Karma are one of few bands that successfully manage to combine the powerhouse rock elements of Led Zeppelin with the flair and pomposity reminiscent of Queen.
1937 - Canadian multi-instrumentalist and a master of the Lowrey organ, Garth Hudson born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. From The Hawks (Ronnie Hawkins's backing group), who then became known as The Band and backed Bob Dylan on his US tour in 1965 and world tour in 1966. 1939 - Edward Patten born in Atlanta, Georgia. Vocalist, The Pips, whose first hit single was a version of 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine' in 1967. With Gladys Knight had the 1973 US No.1 single 'Midnight Train To Georgia', and the 1976 ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ No.3 single with Gladys 'So Sad The Song'. 1941 - Doris Kenner-Jackson is born Doris Coley in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Singer with American girl group The Shirelles, notable for their popularity in the early 1960s. 1944 - English drummer, singer and songwriter Jim Capaldi born in Evesham, Worcestershire, England. With Traffic scored the 1967 UK No.2 & ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ No.11 single 'Hole In My Shoe'. He had the solo 1975 UK No. 4 & ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ No.3 hit single with 'Love Hurts'. Capaldi also performed with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Cat Stevens. 1949 - โ€˜Fatโ€™ Larry James born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (d. 5 December 1987). Drummer & vocalist with Fat Larry's Band. The band's biggest hits were "Act Like You Know" (from the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack) and "Zoom", which reached No.2 on the UK Singles Chart and No.6 in ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ. 1951 - Andrew Gold born in Burbank, California. Singer, songwriter with solo hits 1977 US No.7 & ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ No.21 single 'Lonely Boy' & 1978 UK No.5 single 'Never Let Her Slip Away'. Gold died in his sleep on June 3, 2011 from a heart attack age 59 - https://youtu.be/boAv-Bu4MrI .
1953 - Skeeter Davis, still a member of the Davis Sisters, breaks both her arms and legs in a car crash near Cincinnati, Ohio, a crash which also kills fellow Davis "sister" Betty Jack Davis - https://youtu.be/xHa6a3FtPJg .
1954 - ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ - Phil Small was born in Adelaide, S.A. Bassist and vocalist for the pub rock band Cold Chisel. He has written songs for Cold Chisel including the hit single, "My Baby" (sung by the band's guitarist Ian Moss rather than usual lead singer Jimmy Barnes) for the 1980 album East, "Notion for You" off the Teenage Love album and "The Game" (from Twentieth Century). 1960 - Johnny Kidd and The Pirates were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Shakin' All Over'. Their only UK No.1. Kidd died in car crash in 1966. 1961 - The Beatles began their engagement as regular headliners at Liverpool's Cavern Club. They performed about 300 shows over the next two years.
1961 - Pete De Freitas born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Drummer, for the rock group Echo & the Bunnymen and performed on their first five albums. He died in a motorcycle accident on 14 June 1989 at the age of 27, on his way to Liverpool from London.
1962 - Robert Zimmerman legally changed his name to Bob Dylan.
1968 - ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ - John Stanier was born in Baltimore, Maryland USA. A drummer for the Adelaide based Rock band 'The Mark Of Cain'. Stuart Baguley was replaced on drums by Stanier (ex-Helmet, also member of Tomahawk and Battles) in early 2000. He provided the drumming on โ€˜This is Thisโ€™, which was co-produced by Andy Gill of Gang of Four and Phil McKellar (Grinspoon, Regurgitator, The Cruel Sea). It was released by BMG in mid-2001, with the announcement that Stanier was the band's permanent drummer. Australian rock music journalist, Ed Nimmervoll, declared it as his Album of the Week for 30 June 2001. 1975 - The Eagles went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'One Of These Nights', the group's second US No.1 single and the first to chart in the UK where it peaked at No.23. 1983 - James Jamerson died of complications stemming from cirrhosis of the liver, heart failure and pneumonia in Los Angeles, he was 47 years old. As one of The Funk Brothers he was the uncredited bassist on most of Motown Records' hits in the 1960s and early 1970s including songs by Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops and The Supremes. He eventually performed on nearly 30 No.1 pop hits.

2004 - Eric Clapton bought a 50% share in Cordings to save the historic gentleman's outfitters from closure. The store, based in London since 1839 had run into financial difficulties. The guitarist said he had been fond of the shop since a window display caught his eye when he was 16 and had become a regular shopper there. Cordings was the originator of the Covert coat and the Tattersall shirt and made riding boots for the Queen Mother, the Duke of Windsor and Mrs Simpson.
2014 - Weird Al Yankovic's Mandatory Fun goes to No.1, giving the parody master his first chart-topping album. Weird Al rarely reached the upper echelon of the charts, even though his albums often earned multiple gold and platinum certifications. Known for his wacky videos, opts to release a string of eight clips online in lieu of a lead single, the most popular being "Word Crimes." A parody of Robin Thicke's controversial hit "Blurred Lines," the song takes aim at the grammar-challenged masses who commit unforgivable flubs such as mistaking irony for coincidence or adding an "x" to espresso. The song peaks at #39 on the Hot 100, making Weird Al the third artist in history - behind Michael Jackson and Madonna - to land a Top 40 single each decade since the '80s. 2014 - American singer Rosetta Hightower died aged 70. She was a member of The Orlons who formed in the late 1950s had five US Top 20 hits in the Sixties including 'The Wah Watusi', 'Don't Hang Up' and 'South Street'. The Orlons provided back-up vocals on Dee Dee Sharp's 1962 hit 'Mashed Potato Time' and second hit, 'Gravy (For My Mashed Potatoes)'. 2019 - Ed Sheeran broke U2's tour record when his Divide tour became the biggest, most attended and highest grossing tour of all time. By the time the tour ended he would have spent 893 days on the road, compared to the 760 days U2 toured. Sheeran also surpassed Bono and co's tour attendance record of 7.3 million with a gig in France in May of this year.
